Moseley Braun Statement on Massachusetts Supreme Court Ruling Ambassador Praises Decision

Washington, DC - "Discrimination against LGBT people tears at the fabric of the Constitution and weakens all of our rights. Today's landmark decision is good for America.

We must do everything possible to support families - including lesbian and gay families. All of us - regardless of sexual orientation - stand to benefit from equal marriage rights because stable families strengthen our communities and neighborhoods.

Nobody should be penalized for loving a same-sex partner. In the same way that legal discrimination against interracial partners was wrong, discrimination against same-sex couples is wrong. Our government should not be in the business of excluding lesbian and gay people from full participation in society. Today's ruling is an important step toward mending a terrible wrong and furthering equality and justice for all."
